With cosmetic dentistry, we can make your smile light up a room when you enter. Through different procedures, we'll create that beautiful smile you've been dreaming of. With whitening, veneers, implants, crowns and bridges, we can change an average smile into a brilliant one.
Whitening
Our one-hour in-office Whitening Program is a safe, quick, convenient, and comfortable procedure in which you can have your teeth whitened. The whitening gel is a 35% hydrogen peroxide formula that only can be offered by a dentist. During whitening, Dr. Kroll places the gel on the teeth while isolating and protecting the gums. He activates the bleach with a light to accomplish the whitening. A one-hour bleaching session can produce dramatic whitening results with some tooth or gum sensitivity. Touch-ups with home bleaching trays are recommended.
Home whitening is the most effective bleaching technique, but requires more patient participation. You would wear bleaching trays for an hour a day for approximately 10-14 days. While the results can be impressive, some patients report difficulties with the required time commitment, while others report mild tooth and/or gum sensitivity. One benefit of home bleaching is that the trays provide a quick and easy method to do touch-ups.
Porcelain Crowns & Bridges
Crowns are used when large fillings wear out, when a tooth is cracked, or when making cosmetic improvements on teeth. For the best looking crowns we use porcelain, the material that mimics nature. The result is a crown or bridge made of porcelain that looks and feels like the real thing. We try to work with what nature gave you to create a beautiful smile that looks like you were born with it.
White Fillings
We provide our patients with tooth-colored restorations, believing that they make your teeth look more natural and beautiful. A silver filling has the disadvantages of being metallic and turning black with age. White fillings are placed directly into a tooth and hardened right after Dr. Kroll prepares the tooth. White fillings also form a water-tight bond to the natural tooth structure.
Porcelain Veneers
Tooth veneers, thin porcelain layers placed on the front of your teeth, can be placed on one or more teeth. Most patients choose to have tooth veneers on their front teeth, the teeth that others notice the most when they smile.
Implants can replace ill-fitting dentures or missing teeth and they feel and look like natural teeth. The benefits of dental implants are numerous:
· prevention of bone loss;
· improved appearance;
· the ability to eat your favorite foods;
· the ability to maintain healthy adjacent teeth; and
· your experience of renewed confidence.
Dr. Philip Kroll is one of the few dentists in
The implant is inserted into the jawbone in the area of a missing tooth, and a "crown" is constructed to act as the visible portion of the tooth. Dental implant surgery is generally less painful than having a tooth surgically extracted. Dr. Kroll will place the implant into the jawbone and then cover it with gum tissue, allowing it to heal and "osseointegrate," meaning that it will bond to the surrounding bone in the next two to six months. While the healing process takes place, the patient wears a temporary replacement tooth. Once the implant has bonded to the surrounding bone, Dr. Kroll will uncover it and attach a post to the implant protruding through the gum. At this point, he can build a permanent crown for the tooth. The final result is a replacement tooth that looks, feels, and acts like a natural tooth.
Benefits
Because dental implants are patterned after the structure of your natural teeth, they provide a highly stable support system for the replacement teeth or dentures.
- Improved biting pressure: Healthy teeth are able to absorb over 500 pounds of biting pressure per square inch. If you've worn dentures for a long time, that pressure may be diminished significantly, to one-tenth that of natural teeth. Dental implants can often restore the amount of pressure that can be withstood to nearly the same level of healthy teeth.
- Comfort and fit: Because your replacement teeth are anchored securely to the implants in your jawbone, they can't slip and slide like unsecured dentures.
- Longevity and reliability: With proper oral hygiene and care, scientifically tested and approved dental implant systems have been shown to last as long as 20 years or more with few complications.
- Increased self-confidence: Because dental implants function remarkably like natural teeth, most people who get them experience a renewed sense of self-confidence once they realize they can again chew, talk, laugh, and smile with confidence.
Bone Grafting
The success of a dental implant, its ability to support a dental restoration, is very much dependent upon how much bone is available in the site where the implant is placed. Bone volume is affected by periodontal disease, trauma, and infections. It is not unusual to open up a site in the mouth for implant placement and find out that some of the critical supporting bone is missing. Dr. Kroll has great techniques to replace missing bone. He can increase the height of bone and the width of bone. He can fill in anatomical voids in bone thereby creating new bone and he can fill in all sorts of defects that develop when teeth are lost. He can even use grafting techniques to prevent the loss of bone in circumstances where bone would normally be lost, like the extraction of a tooth.
Soft Tissue Laser Surgery
With laser gum surgery, there is no cutting or stitching, so your mouth can heal faster with less pain. We are concerned with the most up-to-date research and techniques possible and in providing our patients with the finest treatment options. In our office, we currently have different lasers to accomplish and perform different tasks in the esthetics of teeth and gums. Helping you keep your smile for a lifetime is our primary desire and goal.
Restorative dentistry in its broadest sense involves the restoration of oral and dental tissues for patients. It includes operative dentistry, which involves:
· the filling of teeth;
· periodontal dentistry, or the prevention and treatment of gum disease;
· endodontics, or root canal treatment; and
· prosthodontics, or the replacement of teeth.
Some have lately been calling this sort of dentistry a smile makeover. Look carefully at your smile. If you feel it could be better, consider having a smile makeover. A beautiful smile can increase your confidence and self-esteem, giving you an edge in your everyday activities by improving your professional and personal image. In short, a smile makeover is a complete reconstruction of your smile, from the inside out with a comprehensive analysis and redesign of your gum tissue and teeth.
Oral Surgery
Dr. Philip Kroll has many anesthesia techniques available to make your oral surgery a gentle experience.
Trauma Dentistry
Dental trauma is injury to the mouth, including teeth, lips, gums, tongue, and jawbones. The most common dental trauma is a broken or lost tooth. Dental trauma may be inflicted in a number of ways: contact sports, motor vehicle accidents, fights, falls, eating hard foods, drinking hot liquids, and other such mishaps. As oral tissues are highly sensitive, injuries to the mouth are typically very painful. Dental trauma should receive prompt treatment from a dentist.
We realize that some patients are apprehensive about receiving dental care. That's why we have worked hard to garner a reputation for making patients as comfortable and relaxed as possible. If necessary, we can offer qualified patients a small pill before receiving dental treatment for sedation. We're also known for giving pain-free injections called atraumatic injections. After applying a topical anesthetic, the spot becomes numb, and all you feel is a gentle injection.
- Nitrous oxide
- Oral sedation
- Anesthesiologist for IV sedation
If you haven't been to the dentist in a while, it's time to come back because our sedation techniques have advanced tremendously.
To ensure success in our procedures, we take the necessary time to thoroughly evaluate your present dental condition. We use the appropriate diagnostic tools, such as digital X-rays at 90% less radiation, models, photographs, visual examination, full periodontal exam, cancer screening, and esthetic evaluations. Our goal is give our patients of all ages--children, teenagers, adults, and seniors--the necessary information and education so that they may enjoy a beautiful, healthy smile for many years to come.
Treating Children
We focus on prevention, early detection, and treatment of dental disease for children, making sure we keep current with the latest advances. Parents always feel comfortable bringing their children to us. The
Sports Dentistry -- Mouth Guards
Anyone who participates in a sport that carries a significant risk of injury should wear a mouth protector. This includes a wide range of sports like football, hockey, basketball, baseball, gymnastics, and volleyball.
Mouth protectors, which typically cover the upper teeth, can cushion a blow to the face, minimizing the risk of broken teeth and injuries to the soft tissues of the mouth. If you wear braces or another fixed dental appliance on your lower jaw, Dr. Kroll may suggest a mouth protector for these teeth as well. Studies show that athletes who wear mouth guards have a 40% reduction in concussions when trauma occurs.
Root Canal Treatment
We perform root canals to prevent tooth extraction when the inner soft tissue of a tooth becomes damaged, infected, or inflamed. Once we remove the damaged tissue, we carefully fill the canal, seal it, and crown it to protect the tooth and restore its function. Signs you may need endodontic treatment include pain, prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold, tenderness to touch and chewing, and discoloration of the tooth.
Preventive Care and Periodontal Treatment
Early detection is the key to avoiding costly and painful dental treatment. Prevention begins with the control of plaque and calculus, the main cause of decay and periodontal disease. In fact, the major cause of tooth loss in adults is periodontal disease, which is known as the silent killer of teeth. Most patients feel no symptoms until it's too late. With regular dental visits, we can treat gum disease at an early stage, before it gets out of hand.
Non-Surgical Gum Treatment
Gum disease is the infection of the tissues surrounding and supporting your teeth. It is caused by plaque, bacteria that create toxins, which can damage the gums. Bleeding gums are a major warning to the possibility of tooth loss, and we need to address that right away. We treat gum disease with a multi-faceted, non-surgical approach that includes antibiotics, deep scaling, and mouth rinses. We try to avoid surgery whenever possible.
Partials and Dentures
Dentures can help take the place of missing natural teeth. Dentures allow patients to chew and speak more easily while improving their appearance and often boosting self-confidence. Full dentures are used when all of a patient's teeth need to be replaced. Partial dentures are used when only a few teeth are missing. In either case, dentures can help you look and feel your best.
Thousands of patients have been diagnosed and treated for TMJ with excellent results. TMJ syndrome is more common in the elderly, and women are nine times more likely than men to seek treatment for this malady.
Symptoms include:
· headaches, particularly present upon awakening;
· tenderness of the jaw muscles;
· pain in or around the ear;
· clicking, popping or grating sounds when opening or closing the mouth;
· pain or difficulty in chewing, yawning or opening wide;
· jaws that get stuck or lock;
· earache or pain when no infection is present; or
· dizziness.
Dr. Kroll feels conservative treatment is best. First he will try to eliminate the muscle spasms and pain with heat packs, muscle massage, and switching to a soft, non-chewy diet. Mild muscle relaxant drugs and pain medication may be prescribed. He may adjust your bite or recommend a corrective bite plate or splint. In many cases, Dr. Kroll can successfully and conservatively treat the symptoms associated with TMJ disorders. Dr. Kroll has trained under the world-renowned TMJ expert Dr. Terry Tanaka.
We believe it's important to keep up with the latest developments and equipment in dentistry. They help us provide dental procedures faster and with less pain.
Digital Intraoral cameras
With an intraoral camera, we can magnify your mouth and show you exactly what we're talking about on a screen. This allows you to see for yourself the crack, the stain, the gap, and the receding gum line. You don't just have to take our word for it anymore.
Digital X-rays
Dr. Kroll believes that it's important patients are protected from any possible harmful effects from radiation. That is why he uses digital radiography, which decreases radiation significantly compared to conventional dental x-ray machines.
Magnification Loupes
We use a pair of high magnification loupes, or glasses, to help us perform perfect, precise, and accurate dentistry. Not only does Dr. Kroll use the loupes, but so do our hygienists and assistants. These are the same lenses used by brain surgeons for highly specialized procedures.
Air Abrasion
No needles, no drilling, no pain...no kidding! With Dr. Philip Kroll, it's possible with air abrasion. Using an airborne stream of micro-fine powder, Dr. Kroll can remove the decay without the drill, the needle, the noise, or the pain. Also air abrasion preserves more of your natural tooth than the drilling. The next time you need a filling, relax. Micro air abrasion makes the process more comfortable.
Articulator
With an articulator, we can make sure your restorations last for years, perhaps even a lifetime. The articulator helps us take measurements of your mouth and teeth to a very precise degree. Our goal is to get the veneers, crowns, and other dental procedures performed right the first time.
Laser Dental Care
Because we care a lot about our patient's comfort, we use dental lasers to provide dentistry that is faster and pain-free. Heat and vibration are the cause of most of the discomfort associated with the drill, and most of the dental procedures do not even require anesthesia when performed with a laser. Our goal is to make your dental experience as comfortable as possible.
Diagnodent
We have the newest technology in detecting cavities. With the Diagnodent, a laser beam analyzes your tooth structure and detects cavities at their earliest stages. This means we can restore the tiny cavity before it becomes a bigger problem and more expensive. Doesn't that make you smile?
Digital Photography
We use digital photography extensively with many of our patients--for shade matching, lip positioning, and almost every facet involving reconstruction of the smile.
Sterilization: For Your Safety
Our system of safety protocols reduces the chance for cross-contamination. We use high heat steam sterilization. Sterilizers are tested weekly by an independent lab at UCLA. Instruments are heat-sterilized after each patient's use in a process called autoclaving. All instruments are bagged and sterilized.
Computers in Every Room
We have two monitors in every room. With the patient monitor, you can watch cable from 124 channels or play a DVD. We can also show you the inside of your mouth with our intraoral camera or our digital x-ray machine. For procedures that require more in-depth explanations, we can provide you with the latest in multimedia patient education.
